So, on Wednesday, May 4, my Aunt Lisa called me and said, "I have a proposition for you. Do you want to fly home to surprise your Mom for Mother's Day?" I'm like... HELLO??? ...what kind of question is THAT?? OF COURSE I DO!!! So, I flew home the next day! It was so fun. The weekend was so perfect. And I am going to tell you ALL about it!
Thursday:
After telling a few lies to my Momma, I landed safely in Houston. My Aunt Lisa and Uncle Mark and their son, Daniel, all picked me up from the airport. We headed over to meet my Grandad and Mamaw (who also did not know that I was coming!) at Chick-fil-a. My Mom arrived before we did, after we told her we were already eating! ha! Of course she was talking on her cell phone when we pulled up so I was able to sneak all the way into the restaurant... and she never saw me! As I was walking up, my Mamaw spotted me but had no words to say because she was in shock! Finally... my Mom looked up and saw me. She started screaming, "OH MY GOSH! MEGAN IS HERE! I GOTTA GO! I GOTTA GO... MEGAN IS HERE! ...OH MY GOSH!" click. Hung up on the person she was talking to. haha! After we shed a few tears and turned all of our lies to truth... we took some pics. Here they are...
{me and my sweet Momma}
{me, Mom and Grandad-- also a liar for the day!}
After we left Chick-fil-a, Mom and I drove downtown to my Dad's job (he didn't know I was coming either!). It just so happened that he was actually in the truck with one of his bosses... RIGHT behind us! So we pulled over into a gas station. He spotted me. DANG IT! He and I both were struggling to get the vehicle doors open to hug each other... we couldn't get out fast enough! It was so special surprising my parents.
When we got "home" (yes, home) I went straight to the bathtub and melted into it. I LOVE BATHS and currently don't have a tub. Such a blessing it was. And yes, I did take a picture... :)
{heaven on earth}
Friday:
I slept in a little on Friday, of course. Then Mom and I went and got a much needed pedicure. It was so fun and so relaxing.
When the pedicure was over, we grabbed some lunch and went to go pick up my Dad from the house. I had Sonic :)
We headed up to "the school" to see some old teachers and family. It was so great to see people I haven't seen in a while.
When we left the school, the three of us headed up to see my Pawpaw... who also did not know I was coming :)! The drive to his house is one of my favorite... especially under the beautiful, big Texas skies!
On the way there, we had a surprise stop. An elderly man had fallen asleep while driving and rolled his truck 3-4 times. The Lord's angels were with this man... he only had a scratch on his arm. It was a pretty good scratch, but for the accident he had just experienced... he was blessed!
Pawpaw was SO surprised to see me. After he heard the screen door open a third time, he turned to look to find me! He hollered... "HEY! I thought you were in Florida!" It was so wonderful to get to hug him and see him smile and hear the joy in his voice. From there, we went to go see his Momma, my Granny, who will be 98 in July. She is a hoot y'all! When the four of us came into her room, she yelled, "And the Saints come marcin' in..." In her HEAVY Texas Granny accent!
{four generations}
And from there, we went to eat some gooooood 'ole Mexican food. You can see how yummy it is in the picture! Take a look!
all wrapped in bacon... mmmm mmmm good!}
When we got back to his house, I picked up some sheet music and played on the baby grand piano. It was a little rough... but hey! it's been a while! Pawpaw and Daddy enjoyed it and that is all that mattered to me!
Saturday:
Saturday morning, I had the opportunity to go to a really good friend's bridal shower. This girl is so special to me and I was so excited that I got to go. She has been an angel to me since 7th grade.
{Dori and Squirt, forever}
And... I got to see Mindy Lou!
At the shower, I got to visit with a couple of teachers from high school that I was really close to. I sure do miss them! They were angels, too!
Daniel's baseball game was later on in the afternoon. I still cannot believe how big he is! He is not our little "bug" anymore.
{he is almost as tall as I am!}
While watching the game, I got to spend some time with "Bubba." He is so special to me and I love him so much... and his "loves" he gives, too!
After his baseball game comes the good part! ...PAPPASITOS!!!!!! YES! The best Mexican food in the entire world! It was so delicious!
Then we went to go see Soul Surfer... the best movie I have seen in a while. If you see it, be sure to take some tissues!!
Sunday:
Happy Mother's Day! By this point, I have taken about, 4 baths! And it was AMAZING! It felt so good to go to my home church with my family, just like old times. Then off to Grandad's pool... just like old times, again!
We hung out as a family by the pool, just relaxing. We said our goodbyes and then went to water some flowers at my Gran's grave.
{these folks made this weekend happen. Don't know
what I would do without them!}
{miss her so much!}
{me and Daddy under the tree by her grave}
Of course we had to end the day with some more good eatin'! We met my Aunt Cindy and her family at Spring Creek Barbeque for some good ribs! (I forgot to get a picture with them... oops!)
This weekend could not have been more perfect! I got to see so much family and spend time with them. I appreciate my family so much, especially since I live far away now. They are all so special and I am ever grateful for each of them.
Good news is... WE are going back in 13 days!! Yay for Marisa graduating!!
Sorry it is soooo long, but how do you wrap up such a wonderful and perfect time into a short paragraph?? I wanted to share it all!!
--Night :)
